CAMPING festivals 2012

As the hot weather approaches, I know we are all thinking the same thing…festival season! I’ve invested my money into some key camping essentials from past experiences of realizing what I left on the kitchen table as I approached the entrance gates and want you, as my followers, to not make the same mistakes I did. The festivals this season range from large and inexpensive to some on a grand scale and quite expensive, but in the end you get what you pay for, but nothing pays for the stories and friends you return home with.

So I hope these listing and guide help you on your quest to a great summer, and if you have additions or words of advice feel free to comment so I can add such elements. Enjoy!

camping supplies:

tent
sleeping bags and pillows

Interview: DJ Conduktor *DIRTY NITROUS*

DJ Name: Conduktor (1 of 2) of Dirty Nitrous

Genre(s): Drum & Bass and Drumstep
(Additionally, sometimes I play Tech/Progressive House but don’t tell anyone, I only play it when I’m home alone in my underwear.)

From: Richmond, VA

Where did your DJ name originate?
LOL lets just say it was one of those very LONG nights and a hat I used to wear… you’ll just have to leave it at that, and ask me the rest in person. J

Who inspires you? Who’s your favorite artist?
I’d have to say my #1 inspiration would have to be hands down Original Sin. Adam’s sound is perfect in my eyes and every tune of his is worth it’s weight in gold. Other inspirations of mine are people like Zardonic, Crissy Criss, Ian Magistrate Hazard, the entire Formation Record Crew, and anyone who pours their heart and soul into every mix and tune they put forth to the masses.

How long have you been mixing for and how long after starting, did you actually like what you were hearing?
I have been mixing for about 7 years now and I’ve always been proud of my work. To be honest, in the beginning it was more so for the tunes, not the mixing hahaha. I always just picked out my favorite tunes from my favorite artists and tried to tell a story with my sets. I starts off with some sick liquid, move into jump up, and maybe end off with some skull crushing neuro or something along those lines lol. Progression is evident in ones quality of work and important to grow as an artist.

Do you prefer playing on vinyl, controllers or CDJs? What do you think about the way CD’s have taken over vinyl?
Oh sweet jesus, this one could seriously take up a few pages… I have and always will prefer spinning vinyl, it has so much heart and soul, and overall is a fucking blast compared to any other medium out there. NOW, these days for me is it practical especially playing mostly in a tag team?… no… sadly.. controllers, yeah… I’m not even going to touch that subject LOL… When its all said and done, it really comes down to what’s practical in my eyes. I can’t afford $400 worth of wax every few weeks and my back is a lot happier with me ever since I switched to CD’s haha. I know every now and then I will break out my collection and throw down a vinyl set for all the old heads, but vinyl sets twice a week is just not practical these days for me. Evolution and the advancements in technology are unstoppable, but that doesn’t mean you need to forget your roots.

What advice would you give to up and coming DJs?
Stay true to you, don’t let people push you around or tell you what to play and FIND YOUR OWN SOUND!! Mix every day till your fingers bleed, eat a sammich and then keep mixing… and always remember #1 rule HAVE FUN!!!!!

What’s your favorite event that you’ve played?
I can’t really pick one but I can narrow it down to a few. There was a few times at club XS that were absolutely WILD, the other time would have to had been our NYE party this year at the Brunswick hotel in Lancaster. We had a headlining slot and the kids were just going fucking CRAZY, me and Jon (7 Lev-in) were even crowd surfing, If I remember correctly he was swinging from a light fixture on the ceiling, it was an absolute mad house.. oh and IT WAS IN A HOTEL!! hahaha Proper craziness for sure!

Where have you never played before, that you wish too?
Well funny you say that, one of my places would have to be NYC. (cough self promo playing my first party MADworld cough) Growing up in NJ I was always in the city, sneaking into raves and clubs when I was like 14 or 15 haha… Besides NYC, I’d have to say the UK, Hell its the motherland of DNB!!!!

What are your next booked events?
3/17/12 DC warehouse, 21 Transit north VA, 3/23/12 Breakers North VA, 3/24/12 611 cafe frederick MD, 3/28/12 Cameleon club Harrisburg PA 3/30/12 World of Drum and Bass tour w Crissy Criss n SS Lancaster PA, 31 MADWORLD NYC =)

if you want to know more check out the Dirty Nitrous facebook page, or my personal page (D.J. ConduKtor)

Out of all your tracks, which one never fails?
Out of the original tracks, I’d have to say Hustla and Buckwild, they always get any crowd goin. My fav non original tune that’s timeless is Original Sin- Accidental Hero.

Are your sets pre planned? Do you produce your own tracks, if not when?
Sometimes we will sit down with a tune pool and throw a set list together. It’s easier sometimes when tagging with someone, the other half of the time we just “freestyle” and honestly I think that’s when both of our true talents really come out and meld together into what Dirty Nitrous truly tands for. Me and Jon have over 20 originals currently and are still unsigned *cough* *cough*

How does the scene look in your eyes at the moment? What can be fixed to improve it?
The scene has changed a TON since I came into it over 10 years ago. There’s nothing we can do to make it better at this very moment. The only thing we can do as a scene to make improvement is when we’re throwing parties, playing parties, or even just attending parties is make sure it’s done the RIGHT way (this doesn’t mean the easy way or the way to get the most $) We really all need to invest putting some heart, soul, care, and love into it. This scene shouldn’t be viewed as a cash crop people, its a way of life, and form of self expression.

When all the partying is over how do you like to chill out?
A case of cold beer, bootlegged movies, and my tempurpedic bed. Yep, that’s conduktor heaven <3 hahaha

Any shout outs you’d like to make of those who’ve helped you along the way?
Hell yeah! Dj Gringo aka Ghrihghis Kahn for teaching me, Dj Donkey punch, matt coxxx, Jae Illa (the dnb killa!) Chad motherfucking B, the entire Booty Basics Crew, my FL family, Nick Nise (for actually knowing how to drink and doing so every time we chill till the sun comes up)
Dj SS for the internet radio opportunity.
My Dad for actually liking the fact that I’m a Dj and of course my Mom who barely tolerates it haha
ALL of my 81 Massive Crew members especially Jon 7 Lev-in
Neon Black Clothing For being beyond kick ass, Pabst Blue Ribbon and Olde English, and all you bad ass motherfuckers who come out and rage the fuck out when I play…And  last but certainly not least my amazing girlfriend Amanda who deals with all the endless weekends and my crazy ass non stop. <3 LOVE AND RESPECT FAM!!!

Shut UP and dance review

Old school and new school ravers unite all in one spot, and what better of a spot that than the notorious Amazura Ballroom. I’ve had conversations with old school ravers speaking highly of the venue from over ten years ago and they remember the location quite clearly. It can easily fit over 4,000 people and isn’t your normal Brooklyn warehouse but quite contrary a Queens venue (which is entirely rare in the scene we live in). It strategically sits next to the LIRR tying Long Island with the 5 boroughs, only a few blocks from the highway in which I find it comparatively unconventional and to me that makes it notable (being from Queens). For me myself this would be the third party there and it’s always a pleasure to come out and attend. (In the back of my mind I really hope this venue doesn’t become overused like the Electric Warehouse has become because half the fun is having a new environment and space to come out to on adventures and meeting new people.) It’s spacious, comfortable, carpeted sides, wooded dance floors (<3), colossal soundsystem, and the production’s quality was over the top this night in particular comparatively to the last. Spandex shaped stars topped the ceilings, lighting that danced across the dance floors, and walls with Morgan Freeman doing visuals (and if you don’t know him by now, you’re just silly). I feel this room hasn’t been used to it’s maximum potential yet for deco though but it’s so large, you could understand why when viewing it I just wish someone would have the budget to make it go all out.

My favorite new touch about this party would have to be the Peek A Boo gogo girls dancing behind silhouttes casting curvaceous shadows onto the crowd via stage flowing with the music (which I must say fits perfectly for their name and should consider doing this more often ;) )

Afrika Bambaataa was a nice old school touch but old schoolers did not represent themselves proudly as they should of and were expected to and this saddened me. Have old schoolers really hung up their UFO’s for real life? This party was directed more for you guys to show us new cats how it’s done and the room looked quite empty for it being such a grand venue that it is. The lineup was completely ridiculous yet where was everybody? Turns out there happened to another party on the same night that a new promoter threw for a much cheaper price and that’s where all the new ravers were at. You brag so much about the music yet you can’t pay the extra $15 expense for a lineup that happens once every so often and you go out to a party where you can see the same lineup that you can always see? I don’t know who I’m disappointed in this one, it’s just quite sad New York City.

DJ Dank really warmed up this evening on the main floor playing a mixed edm set touching mostly dubstep, drum and bass dance flow, playing favorites like Netsky’s “Everyday” and I must say he is most definitely becoming a favorite of mine whether it be mainstream hits or not, I can dig his shit! I got word at some point after midnight the venue was running hot water through the sinks so the kids had to buy bottles of water which I found quite upsetting. smh.

Jen Mas, thank goodness for coming back, at that point in the evening I know many have been waiting quite some time and your welcome back hit the dance floor hard. Seeing everyone move their feet to the dance floor you saved my hope for the evenings progression, making it so worth the wait! Speaking to many ravers who have been raving as long as I, we’ve all been patient in your welcome back and you held down your shit dominantly and showed the new schoolers that actually came out what they’ve been missing out on!

Simulateneously Empress held down the smaller room upstairs but I think she was not hyped enough and the New York City crowds have become hardstyle and hardcore fanatatics that drum and bass has been overlooked and she played some nasty shit, as she always does. These ladies of New York City know their shit and know how to hold the decks down, it makes me proud to be a woman.  I’ve never seen DJ Rap or Lady Faith but everyone seemed to dig their shit as did I and brought us all finally together on the dance floor as one. A lot of kids seemed to be not prepared for such a get down kind of evening and were really feeling the flow of the music. Soappy held down the decks upstair and I’ve never actually had the chance to check him out until now and at first he threw down some electro and breaks beats and people were bobbing their heads but he changed up the flow to get people to move their feet. He began to throw down some dubstep into the mix with drum and bass following and he proved to us what he’s got and I was quite glad I made the time to check him out, I was planning on leaving from being so tired at this point but his music changed my mind.

Lastly Keither wrapped up the smaller room and at this point I really didn’t want to leave playing a whole mixed up edm set in which I felt at first was drum and bass, then into dubstep, then hard dance/happy hardcore? I don’t know man but Tight Crew has been working on their sets and it’s being picked up more and more as the whole room was dancing on this small dance floor and it was pretty late but it didn’t seem to matter because he had what it takes to make people not want to go out into cold and drive on their way home, and that’s what it’s all about, making the people want more!!! I can’t wait to see these boys hold it down in the future, definitely worth staying out the extra hour or two.

Overall, I had a great time some ups some downs, expected more from Epic Entertainment but I guess the price tag threw a lot of ravers off from coming and I can understand in a society where moneys tight. The music was definitely worth the price I would say but if you say you’re all about the music like I said put your money where your mouth is New York City, you missed out! I was surprised people had to pay for cotton candy but then again I’m used to Tight Crew’s Super Mario 3 where it was free but then again there was a bouncy castle but the demographic was too vast of old and new school to produce a great outcome of the masses. Can’t wait for the next one, you give us what you promised and was worth the wait <3

REVIEW: Fairytale Massacre

Well, the awaited Friday the 13th party was finally here and I know I wasn’t the only one full of excitement and undecisive on what to wear. I can  tell you this, I’m very glad I was not a fairy due to the all crampness of room and smacking of wings to the face every five minutes.

Powertrip & Paradox Productions you guys did a great job with lighting and sound, and

Morgan you know your always with it when it comes to your creativity and yourvisuals.

Pretty Girl made competiting with dressing up so hard to beat, you all dressed to the part and perfect at that!

The rooms filled up quite fast, and to make note of Sprite’s drumnbass set in the basement, it warmed up a lot of people to the dance floor, with familiar songs and new beats his work is truely paying off. I didn’t actually see the line ever disappear through out the night, on top of finding it quite difficult to find friends amongst the crowds, but the party went off smoothly with people dancing from the cage, which hung in the middle of the room (oh yes I said cage, it looked quite fun as odd as it is to say outloud.) I would of loved to give this party a 10 but from reviewing the info M.D. Productions had promised they actually didn’t deliever even half of these addition but I know this went un-noticed to some but it would of been nice to have had, even if they edited it out before the party but it still says as quoted…

“#dry ice/fog machines.
#blacklights & UV bubbles
#extra ventilation
#cotton candy & sweet treats
#zombie make-up artist on site
#DANCE competition hosted at midnight $2 entry. winner takes all, plus special prize!”

In which next time, these things would be nice, especially some cotton candy in which I was looking quite forward too, as well as your dance competition. Grime Syndicate I believe was playing my favorite song, or could I be mistaken, ‘The Big Bad Wold’ in which was totally my costume (if nobody got it haha) and I’m pretty sure I catched him New Years Eve in Baltimore, great DJ with great performance and transitions, need to add him to my ipod. As reading the lineup as the night progressed I can clearly see there was some issues as people were moved around,

but Gobs The Zombie took the cake for me with a great set to fit the mood as well as dressing up to stay in theme, which DJs never ever do, loved the spirit, would love to see him at more parties around the area as I see my local favorites. Fattie Fatz did you even spin, I was looking forward to some dubstep/drum and bass? :( John Bas held down the hardstyle beats in the basement which was surprisingy much cooler than the main room but still many dripped in sweat for the love of hardstyle on that dancefloor.

Noomi Ra & Ray Gunz held down the closing hours of the main room, which I got to give it to him Noomi and for that Ray Gunz are showing their DJ badges with much practice being shown in their work. Everyone seemed to be hopping and swaying to this set, which the crowd was at an all time high at this point in the night, making it difficult for them to leave as the night progressed due to being spoiled by good music through the night. Isn’t that what a party is all about? The love of the music, the passion, the great friends you meet, the fantastic lightshow which Wish Onmeh delievered me and you should all check out his recaps of the parties.

Lastly I got to give a big shout out to Kirkworx, trekking it out from Philly, and still doing phenomenal UV blacklight paint, you were highly missed. Till our paths cross again! <3

M.D. productions you get the upper hand because these little things went unnoticed, people didn’t want to leave, and everyone was covered in sweat, smeared makeup, and happy and thankful as ever. Thank you for bringing us an awesome party with awesome vibes for a long waited change for NYC parties.

RATING: 8 (i want my cotton candy dammit ;) )

Interview: DJ Syncere

DJ Name:DJ.SyNCeRe aka SyNCeRe

Genre(s): Hardstyle and Hard Trance

From: Bronx NY

Where did your DJ name originate?

My family called House of Syn, so i made Syncere

Who inspires you? Who’s your favorite artist? Dj Isaac

Any specific DJ you wish to perform with in the future?

When it comes to locals i would say Dj Cim, Teddy glow, and Subtonix

How long have you been mixing for and how long after starting, did you actually like what you were hearing?

Started back in like 2004, i was bedroom Dj for 6 years before i decided to play anywhere else

Do you prefer playing on vinyl, controllers or CDJs? What do you think about the way CD’s have taken over vinyl?

I prefer cdjs with Serato Scratch Live but vinyl will show people true Djing skills especially if you’re a turntables kind of person.

What’s your favorite event that you’ve played?

666 massive, all the Super Naturals and Rave Wars when i played in the pouring rain

Out of all your tracks, which one never fails? Pounding Senses / Bitches

Are your sets pre planned? Do you produce your own tracks, if not when?

I do choose what I want to play before hand unless another dj plays it that night. I do not produce my own tracks and I’m not really looking to getting in that side of DJ’ing at the moment

How does the scene look in your eyes at the moment? What can be fixed to improve it?

Just looks like its evolving into a more “Hipster” crowd and less of what its supposed to be which is “RAVE” and i just feel that the only people that can fix the scene are the promoter who throw parties

When all the partying is over how do you like to chill out?

I relax at home watching movies with my Dog or playing video games

Any shout outs you’d like to make of those who’ve helped you along the way? Jesse “free” Jon Bas, SimleE, DJ Cim. Marlene Dejesus, and Jice AKA DJ HeathCliff R.I.P

Where can one find your music, any free downloads?: yes on my DJ page in the Info Section
